The STC volunteers before us graciously have left a list of dozens of restaurants they've tried and loved. This means that we've got a leg up on figuring out what restaurants to trust, neighborhoods to explore, and foods we want to try. Additionally, it was recommended to Amanda that she buy a copy of Lunchtime with Samnang before we came - a children's book authored by a Chinese-American SLP who is married to a Cambodian-American man - which taught us some of the yummiest looking Cambodian dishes. If you're a pediatric SLP reading this, I highly recommend that you add author Tracy Guan to your list of preferred authors for books for Dialogic Reading style therapy with your caseload. It was perfect.
Food is incredibly cheap here, in comparison to what we spend in Boston. In Boston our routine take out costs our family $60-75. If we dine in and include beverages, it's not hard to get up over $100 for a single meal. In our first few days in Cambodia, we're spending an average of $10-$30 to feed the three of us the same quality and volume of food and beverages. This means that many expats eat out 2-3 meals a day and have no need for cooking at home. We can definitely see why.
We've quickly learned that mom insists on taking pictures of most of our food before we can eat it. We'll add pictures here over time with dates/restaurant names as long as mom can upload quick enough to remember. Check back often!
