Our itinerary took us from Boston to Minneapolis to Seoul, South Korea and finally to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Our flights were 3 hours, 14 hours, and 5 hours respectively.
We were lucky that Ben got us upgraded to Premium Select for the long flight so we had a bit more room and nicer amenities like a comfy pillow, blanket, eye mask, ear plugs, slippers, and even a toothpaste and toothbrush set! (Mom is the only one who brushed her teeth on the plane). The flights felt long and our bodies were stiff from sitting still so much. We tried to stretch our legs every couple hours, but mostly we watched a lot of movies. Each of us slept a little on and off, mostly on the longest flight. Let me tell you, we tried to stay awake on the last flight, since we landed at 10pm local time, we knew we would want to go straight to bed back at the apartment. But we didn't succeed. Naps were definitely taken on the 3rd flight.
Here's our airline food for your enjoyment:
Chicken and mashed potatoes. The potatoes and the butter on my bread were amazing!
Three cheese quiche. So hot, but once it cooled down, it was yummy. Yogurt, granola, and berries on the side.
This was a Korean Bibimbop from Korean Airlines. Olivia stole my spicy pepper paste to put on her Chinese Fried Rice.
At local time 10pm (which was 11am back in Boston), we arrived in Phnom Penh. It was weird that our bodies thought it was lunch time and it was pitch black dark outside. We enjoyed seeing the city lights during landing and were excited to see our first Tuk Tuk once we got through customs and Immigration.
The visa process in Cambodia is still fairly easy. We each got $35 ordinary/business visas, which are good for 30 days and we can extend them to stay longer. Mom's business manager with STC will help us get our visa extensions. After we paid our fee and answered a few questions, we were off to get our picture and thumb prints taken and then they put a little QR code/sticker in our passport and off we went!
STC had arranged a car pick up and we stayed in touch with them by Telegram (the preferred local messaging app) along the way. A short van ride home brought us to our apartment. We're staying for the first 24 hours in a temporary apartment until our full time apartment is deep cleaned and ready, which will happen later in the day on 7/4/2025.
After our 30 hour journey was complete, we crashed in bed and are hoping to stave off jet lag by sleeping well on night one and then staying awake successfully on our first full day in Cambodia. More to come!
